Green Urban Initiative (GUI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to implementing sustainable living practices in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Our main focus is to establish a local network of small-scale community gardens, with additional efforts aimed at reducing waste and fostering communication about sustainable living practices in our beloved city.

GUI believes that it is our right - and responsibility - as human beings to ensure that the way we live allows ourselves and future generations to meet basic human needs, which requires mindful evaluation about how we go about meeting our immediate needs as well as how our decisions today affect the ability of our children and grandchildren to meet their needs.  GUI believes that this responsiblity - and right - begins with each of us as individuals and extends into our families, communities, businesses and governments.

GUI believes that there are many opportunities to improve the way we live right here in Harrisburg right now.  GUI believes that - in terms of human communities and development - any planning activity requires consideration of many perspectives because all life is - at some level - intertwined.
